The UK is currently experiencing unprecedented times. The government-imposed guidelines regarding how we live and work have made drastic changes to the daily lives of employees and business operations alike.

Although many ‘non-essential’ businesses have temporarily closed, there are still businesses who are continuing to stay open to provide necessary services to the UK.

Just like other Made in the Midlands members, Avery Weigh-Tronix plays a critical role in the supply chain of some of the government’s key sectors, including healthcare, food, logistics, waste and power, and we’re proud to be able to provide support to our customers within these key sectors.

The NHS demand for oxygen has rapidly increased as a result of the Coronavirus. As the demand for oxygen within hospitals is growing, we’re helping a national industrial gas supplier double the capacity of their oxygen gas filling lines. We’ll be supplying additional weighing equipment to existing automated gas filling stations to allow our customer to prep empty gas bottles while others are being filled. The oxygen will be supplied to hospitals to help patients with severe cases of Coronavirus.

With supermarkets under more strain than ever, we’ve been listed as a critical supplier to some of the UK’s major supermarkets. This allows our service technicians easy access to distribution centres across the UK to calibrate weighing equipment such as axle weighers.

Our workforce of 150 service technicians across the UK are continuing to work extremely hard in difficult circumstances, and we’ve introduced new personal protective equipment and social distancing measures to keep them safe. A benefit of having such a large workforce is being able to support our customers where smaller suppliers can’t, we’ve seen a growth in the number of enquiries coming through our metrology equipment calibration service, Calibration Select which is able to provide calibrations both in our laboratory in Birmingham and on customer sites where possible.
